What is the Tai Initiative?
The Tai Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring new thinking about the relationship between the U.S. and China. Our passion is cultivating relationships between people and leaders working to improve relations at the sub-national level.
Who are you?
Skilled in online application development. Ready to work, eager to apply your skills in a practical and professional setting. You consider yourself creative, and aren’t afraid to think outside the box when needed. Available for weekend design sessions in late May or June. Interest in China is a bonus.
What will you do?
You’ll help us plan, design, and implement add-ons to mesh with WordPress, providing a more interactive experience for online users. Examples include interactive maps, quizzes, or that awesome idea you’ve been longing to build.

The finished product of this internship may fulfill school project requirements, dependent on conditions of mutual collaboration and the scope of your involvement. You’ll gain valuable experience working on development projects in person and remotely, working alongside a team spread across multiple cities. On project completion, you’ll have the skills and confidence to land paid projects in the field of app design and development, as well as an awesome addition to your resume.
Desired Skills:

Ability to understand an organization’s strategic needs and produce ideas for digital tools and resources to help meet those needs.

Experience using The Brain: a multi-platform information visualization and management software

Ability to produce a code requirements document (spec)

Robust WordPress experience

Flexible communication style

Chinese language ability, written and spoken
Duties:

Self-administer work schedule to allow 5 hours per week for this project

Assist with assembling a spec for the agreed upon add-ons for development

Ultimately, execution of the spec will deliver the greatest benefit for yourself and Tai Initiative.

If unavailable to implement the spec, or you need help, we’ll ask you to refer new members of the team to assist.

Must be available for two or three full days of discussion, brainstorming, and planning between May and June
