SUMMARY:When a Billion Chinese Jump: A Discussion on Environmentalism
DESCRIPTION:In this Tai Luntan\, an all-female panel examines British reporter Jonathan Watts’ “When a Billion Chinese Jump: How China will Save the World—or Destroy It.” Analyzing Watts’ impression of Chinese environmentalism\, the panel discusses his reporting as insightful yet also influenced by the bias of a Western lens. The discussion seeks to challenge biases and insights regarding the state of environmentalism in both the U.S. and China and how our bilateral cooperation may be essential to the advancement of environmentalism and environmental diplomacy around the world. \nHeather Pierce\, the host\, is The Tai Initiative’s new Director of Operations. Heather has previous experience researching environmentally-related issues at the US Embassy in Beijing.\nJessica Collins and Erin Slawson are both college interns of The Tai Initiative\, applying their studies and developing their international relations skills through such programs as this TLT and the publication of our newsletter.\nGuo “Grace” Weining is a member of The Tai Initiative’s Board of Advisors and recently supported the work of the China Partnership of Greater Philadelphia’s environmental exchange programs. \nThe program aired July 19\, 2016\, 5:00pm PT / 8:00pm ET \nPlease share your comments in the space below after listening to the discussion.
